Home / Paid chores vs family responsibilities
Family responsibilities are the jobs kids do because they live in the house. Paid chores are extra jobs a child may choose to do for money after normal responsibilities are handled.
Use this for baseline responsibilities.
Use this when older-kid jobs need clearer room.
The line does not have to be harsh. It just has to be visible.
| Family responsibility | Paid chore |
|---|---|
| Repeats every week | Comes up when there is extra work. |
| Usually not paid | May be paid if agreed first. |
| Example: unload dishwasher | Example: wash the car. |
Keep the baseline first: younger kids clear plates and feed pets with help; tweens can own laundry or vacuuming; teens can carry bigger recurring jobs and optional paid extras.
Choreeo keeps the kid-facing part on paper. Parents use the iPhone app to log real life with Siri or a quick tap, then print a fresh fridge chart when the week changes. Kids do not need another screen.
Join the iPhone beta interest list for Siri and tap logging when it opens.
Join the iPhone betaIt is work a child does because they are part of the household: clearing dishes, putting away laundry, feeding a pet, or resetting a shared room.
A paid chore is extra work with a clear finish and an agreed amount. It should not replace ordinary family responsibilities.
Say it plainly and design the chart that way. Stars track completed work. Payment, if used, applies only to agreed paid extras.
